Discover the Power of Relational Integrative Counselling

I strongly believe there isn't just one approach that fits all. As an integrative counsellor I adapt my way of working, using evidence-based methods and tools to meet your individual needs. Helping you to feel heard and validated, bringing deeper awareness and the understanding you seek. I am passionate about helping you overcome the barriers that are holding you back. To help you build confidence, resilience, self-esteem whilst gaining skills, new strategies and peace.

Support Tailored to Your Unique Needs

Many people come to me feeling lost, overwhelmed, or weighed down by worry, perhaps struggling with relationships, self-doubt, or simply feeling stuck. Whatever brings you here, you'll find a warm, genuine space where you can speak openly. Clients often tell me they feel quickly at ease, and that my authentic curiosity helps them feel truly heard.

Building Trust Through Warm, Genuine and Empathetic Communication

For many years before training as a counsellor, I supported people within the workplace when they needed assistance. I understand how tough processes can be, such as settlements, redundancy, investigations, or feeling unhappy and stressed in your job. I understand we all experience so many of life's ups and downs and that has been part of my journey too. This naturally helps me to have a deeper empathy and understanding, bringing a greater connection with you.

FAQs

Here are some common questions about my in-person and online counselling services to help you get started.

Online counselling is a convenient way to receive support from a qualified professional. Sessions are conducted via secure video calls, allowing you to connect from the comfort of your home. This approach ensures you can focus on your emotional health without the stress of travel.

Yes, I do offer in-person counselling at my private practice in the OL2 region of Oldham, Greater Manchester. This will take place in a comfortable and confidential room, so there is no need for you to find somewhere uninteruppted yourself.

Sessions are £50 per session, typically 50 minutes duration.

Counselling is in-person or online. I use Microsoft Teams and email clients a link which they simply click to access their counselling session.

I also offer sessions via WhatsApp and telephone.

A quote from a current client might help answer that:

"Bridget is such a genuine person who instils trust through her honesty and ability to understand and empathise with my situation. She always gives her undivided attention during sessions and so I never feel that she is not listening. There are times when I think what I am saying doesn't make any sense, but no matter how confusing I think I sound, Bridget is always able to interpret what I am trying to say. She is also extremely self-aware and is able to pre-empt any thoughts which are born out of my paranoia. As our relationship evolves and she gets to know me more, she has the ability to inject humour into a session which can be a great relief."

I am a qualified relational integrative counsellor having completed a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. Since qualifying I have always continued to deepen my knowledge by undertaking continued professional development (CPD).

I practice as a relational counsellor because scientific evidence has shown the therapeutic relationship to be the most important aspect to enabling change and dealing with underlying concerns.

This means that I look for relational patterns that you may display to help you understand yourself better and understand why you respond in the way you do. This can help you with the relationships you have with others and yourself. For example, noticing if you are listening to an internal voice which fills you with self-doubt.

By sharing your concerns in a safe and confidential way I strive to be that non-judgemental, empathic person who can truly listen to you.

There are many types (modality) of counselling, apparently over 500! Counsellors can either train and work in one type, or train to be integrative which means using several types of therapy.

I believe we are all individual and no one type fits all, so I work by adapting myself to the needs of the client.

I may use a Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) informed approach to understand your thought patterns, emotions, physical symptoms and behaviours experienced. Helping us to understand patterns which may not be helping you and possibly the underlying reasons. We can consider what currently helps and any new additional strategies, for example how to compassionately reframe thinking patterns. I will share some theory with you about how an anxious brain works, as this is often helpful in understanding anxiety.

We all grieve in our own individual way and many emotions such as anger, regret or guilt can be associated with grief. To help you I may use a Person-Centred Approach (PCA/PCT) possibly with some creative exercises. Previous clients have found that having someone outside of their usual circle truly listen, empathise and share their sadness, can be such a release.

There are also different reasons for loss - perhaps you have been made redundant. This brings its own grief and adaptations. I have supported people in the work environment for many years and so have an added appreciation of what you might be experiencing.

Perhaps you have noticed patterns in your relationships, and you don't understand why you respond in the way you do. We can explore some of your history to gain a deeper understanding, maybe consider your attachment style, noticing patterns and parallels in how these are playing out now. Helping to bring connections and understanding for you, allowing you to change if you choose to.

Pros: Remote therapy has been found to have the same therapeutic benefits as face-to-face counselling. Online counselling provides greater flexibility as clients don't have to allow for travel time, or travel costs to and from sessions. Online counselling suits clients who find it a challenge to get out, perhaps because of health limitations or caring responsibilities. My clients are based all over the UK and so online counselling has given them a greater choice of counsellor.

Cons: Working online I get fewer visual cues, but I have not found this lessens the quality of counselling. Clients tell me they may have felt unsure initially, but after a couple of sessions they know they don't feel at a disadvantage and appreciate the flexibility it offers them. Online therapy requires a good quality Wi-Fi connection, but there a number of things that can be done to improve this and I am happy to talk you through these.

I qualified as a Therapeutic Counsellor and Psychotherapist at university on a BACP accredited training programme, achieving the Diploma HE in Therapeutic Counselling.

I am a Registered Member of the BACP, my membership number is 402899 should you wish to verify this.

The BACP is the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy which is a professional association that sets standards for therapeutic practice in the UK. As a Registered Member this demonstrates that I meet high standards of proficiency, professionalism and ethical practice.

I am also DBS checked and cleared to Enhanced Status.

I am passionate about the work that I do, and I believe in life-long learning. I take responsibility for regularly further educating myself undertaking continued professional development (CPD). I have completed CPD on many subjects including:

  • Trauma-informed therapy approaches
  • Working with anxiety and depression
  • Grief and bereavement counselling
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques
  • Person-Centered Approach (PCA)
  • Online counselling best practices
  • Attachment theory and relationships
  • ADHD and Autism awareness

This ongoing training means I can offer you the most current and effective support for your specific needs.

Please contact me using the email or telephone buttons below to arrange a free initial assessment, to find out if we can work together and answer any questions. If I do not answer your call, please leave a voicemail, I may be with a client or it could be out of hours. I will return your call.

If this is the case it sounds like you need a different type of help. If you feel you are in crisis I urge you to contact your GP/health professional, Samaritans, Silver Line, or call 999 (press 55 if you can't speak). For Domestic Abuse contact the National Domestic Abuse Helpline on 0808 2000 247. If you don't want to speak you can text “Shout” to 85258. Please take care, there are so many people that can help.

I am lucky to have had Bridget by my side on this journey. She helped me to find "me" again and gave me the tools to discover answers for myself, at my own pace. She is most supportive and instils confidence and belief. I couldn't allow myself to think of the future, though I really wanted to. I'm not afraid of that anymore.

The breathing exercises Bridget taught me are extremely helpful. By using the tools and techniques she has given me, I feel better equipped to cope with whatever comes my way. I'm a visual and practical person and Bridget has lots of posters and visual aids, which made it easier for me to explain how I was feeling. My life changed dramatically overnight last year. I can hand on heart say if it wasn't for Bridget, I wouldn't be here anymore. She saved me.
